When it Comes to the Meter of Percussion, you can't get around the Name Flip Philipp in Austria. Only a few of his Colleagues can claim to be at the Forefront of Both classical And Jazz. His "Expression instrument" is without a doubt considered to be the Vibraphone.
Born in Oberdorf in 1969, Friedrich Philipp Pesendorfer, aka Flip Philipp, received his first Music Lessons in trumpet, Recorder and Euphonium at the Age of Six. At The beginning of his Studies, Flip Philipp completed his studies at the University Of Music in Graz, first at the University of Music with a Focus on percussion instruments, and then moved to the Franz Schubert Conservatory in Vienna, where he took up mallet instruments, i.e. the various Table Games such as Xylophone, Vibraphone, Marimba or Chimes. As far as jazz is concerned, Flip Philipp took a Part of the self-taught Path, for example by teaching himself to Improvise with the Help of countless Transcriptions of various Jazz Pieces. He then perfected his knowledge and playing at jazz theory and Improvisation classes at the "Berklee Summercollege of Music" in Perugia/Italy. At the Age of 17, he finally chose Vibraphone as his main Instrument in the Field of Jazz.
Flip Philip's professional musical Career began in 1987 as a Substitute and Member of various Vienna Symphony Orchestras and Chamber Music Ensembles, which quickly gave him an excellent reputation. In an Interview, he revealed about more details about "his" Messiah: "I extracted and meditatively stretched Nuclei of Melodies and cadences. Our Version of the Messiah gets a lot of Rest and Breath as a result. The Reduction to two Voices and four Instruments creates clarity, transparency and rhythmic flexibility, the use of many odd metres and the use of the Tabla Drum as a Resting pole gives my Messiah interpretation a free Meditative colour. My Goal: To keep the Core of Melodies and Cadences in their Recognition Value, but to keep Bringing surprise moments and aha experiences. "
As you can imagine, Flip Philipp – also known in Insider Circles as a Man of intricate Rhythms – with his Projects lively Concert activity at home and Abroad and is a welcome Guest of The various Cultural Forums, Austria's international Network of "Cultural messages."
