Biography
Wolfgang Klinser was born in 1965 in upper Austria into a musical family. At the age of six he received his first music lessons from his grandfather, who taught composition and piano at the conservatorium in Vienna. He commenced his clarinet studies, winning various prizes at the competition “Jugend musiziert". Later Wolfgang Klinser continued his studies at the University of Music in Vienna with Prof. Horst Hajek. Graduating with excellence, he was awarded the “Prize of Honour” from the Austrian Ministry for Education and Arts.
Wolfgang Klinser was principal clarinettist in various orchestras, his last post being in the Munich Philharmonic before being appointed Professor at the University of Fine Arts Graz. Parallel to his work as a pedagogue, he is in demand as a chamber musician and is presently also principal clarinettist in the chamber orchestras “Camerata Salzburg” and “Vienna Chamber Orchestra”.
Wolfgang Klinser regularly performs as soloist, notably with Vienna Chamber Orchestra under Heinrich Schiff at the Konzerthaus Vienna and also at the Haydntage in Eisenstadt (Austria) together with the Ă–sterreichisch-Ungarische Haydnphilharmonie under Christopher Hogwood. Together with the Orchestra he also performed play/conduct at the Liszt Akademie in Budapest.
As soloist he as participating several times at the Salzburg Festival together with Camerata Salzburg, e.g. under direction of Peter Eötvös and Hans Graf. In 2012 he played Mozart’s concerto with the Camerata Salzburg under Giovanni Antonini at the Stfitung Mozarteum, and during the “Mozartwoche” in 2013 he performed solo-parts of “Titus” under the direction of Louis Langrée.
His chamber music activities have taken him to Japan, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, England, Venezuela, Lebanon and the Emirates.  Â
