Summer concerts at the St. Stephan's Cathedral

Summer-Concert-Series

Vivaldi published his four violin concertos in 1725 as part of his collection, Op. 8. With his experience being a virtuoso violinist on the one hand, and being a composer on the other hand he knew how to create great musical effects in his works: gentle winds, severe storms, heavy heat and thunderstorms, birdsongs and the barking of a dog, men going hunting, a barn dance and skating - musical images that stimulate the imagination and are able to captivate the audience.
The ensemble „Soloists of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra“ was founded in 1983. It is represented at the Wiener Konzerthaus with its own concert series and well known conductors and soloists are showing the high artistic quality during their cooperation.

Besides Antonio Vivaldi other composers also devoted their selves to the theme “Seasons”. Joseph Haydn’s oratorio, published under the same title, is to name as one of the most significant works picking “Seasons” out as a central theme. You will hear overture, composed by pieces of the original work and adapted for string quartet.

The soloists Dalibor Karvay, Yuri Revich, Edua Zadory and Verena Stourzh perform alternately over the span of the concert series with the Ensemble "Soloists of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra".
