Winner of the Concours Géza Anda 2012

Varvara Nepomnyashchaya was born in Moscow in 1983. After studying for eleven years with Prof. Lidija Grigorieva at the Russian Gnesins Academy of Music, she was accepted as a student in the class of Prof. Mikhail Voskresensky at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory.

In 2011 she continued her studies with Prof. Evgeni Koroliov at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre.

Varvara won numerous prizes and scholarships at an early age, such as Second Prize in the J.S. Bach Competition in Leipzig in 2006, Second Prize in the Nagoya Piano Competition in 2008, Third Prize in the Bremen Piano Competition in 2009, Third Prize in the Svetislav Stancic Competition in Zagreb in 2011 and Third Prize at the 63rd Prague Spring Competition in 2011. In 2012 she won First Prize at the 12th Géza Anda Concours in Zurich. The jury also awarded her the Mozart Prize. She received the Géza Anda Audience Prize for her performance of Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto, accompanied by the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra under the baton of David Zinman.

For several years, Varvara has been performing at home and abroad as a soloist with various chamber orchestras and symphony orchestras. Numerous concert engagements have already taken her to Russia, Germany, France, Poland, Italy, Greece, Austria, Japan and Switzerland. Innumerable concerts are planned for her as a result of her First Prize in the Géza Anda Concours, including with the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, the Musikkollegium Winterthur, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of German Radio SWR, the Orchestra of the St. Petersburg Philharmonie, the Philharmonie Jena and the Schaffhausen Sinfonietta.

During her studies at the Moscow Conservatory, she devoted herself to an intensive study of chamber music under Professor Alexander Bonduryansky.

Varvara received valuable artistic encouragement from renowned piano pedagogues and pianists such as Vladimir Krainev, Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, Dmitry Bashkirov and Andrzej Jasinski.

Since 2011 she has been a lecturer at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre.
