Since 2018 Myron Michailidis is the General Music Director (GMD) of the Erfurt Philharmonic Orchestra and Erfurt Opera. He studied piano and conducting in Athens and in Berlin (UdK). He also holds a law degree from the University of Athens, Greece.
He has conducted several major orchestras all over the world, such as: the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, the Rome Symphonic Orchestra, the Shanghai Opera HouseOrchestra, the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, the Bucharest National Opera, the Staatsorchester Braunschweig, the Philharmonisches Orchester Erfurt, the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra, the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Mexico State Orchestra, the Odessa Philharmonic Orchestra etc.
He has collaborated with distinguished artists such as, Paul Badura-Skoda, Salvatore Accardo, Cyprien Katsaris, Ivo Pogorelich, Lars Vogt, Shlomo Mintz, Misha Maisky, Vadim Repin, Martino Tirimo, June Anderson, Cheryl Studer, Paata Burchuladze, Fazil Say and several others.
From 2004 until 2011 he was the Artistic Director and the Chief Conductor of The Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra (TSSO) and from 2011 until 2017 he had been serving as the Artistic Director and the Chief Conductor of The Greek National Opera (GNO). While with the TSSO, Maestro Michailidis led concerts at various festivals in Greece and abroad (f.ex. a tour in Beijing China, host of the 2008 Olympic Games).
He has recorded for EMI Classics and repeatedly for Naxos. His recording of Beethoven’s 3rd and 4th piano concertos with Aldo Ciccolinihas already brought him into the international spotlight, whereas his recordings of works by Ildebrando Pizzetti with Naxos received (in 2009), a Five Diapasons award in "Diapason". In addition, his collaboration with the renown Greek soloist Theodore Kerkezos produced the first “Greek Classics” CD featuring works by Greek composers under the same label. This CD received the “Supersonic Award” by the Pizzicato Classics in Luxembourg and was recommended by NAXOS for two Grammy awards.
In 2016 he was knighted Chevalier de l' Ordre des Arts et des Lettres of the French Republic.
