Pietro Mascagni

1863 - 1945

Pietro Mascagni, born in 1863 in Livorno and passed away in 1945 in Rome, was an Italian composer and one of the most significant figures of the Verismo movement.

His most famous work, the opera Cavalleria Rusticana, brought him instant fame and is considered a prime example of Italian realism in music. Mascagni composed a total of 15 operas, although none achieved the lasting popularity of Cavalleria. His style is characterized by intense emotionality and expressive harmonies, bringing a new level of drama to the verismo opera.
