Thomas Koncz

The Austro-Hungarian conductor Thomas Koncz was born in Budapest, studied conducting and composition at the Universities of Music in Budapest and Vienna. He is prizewinner of several international conducting competitions in Vienna, Copenhagen, Milan and Florence. From 1974-1980, he was Conductor at the Hungarian State Opera, from 1984-1993 Music Director of the Southwest German Philharmonic Orchestra, from 1993-1996 Music Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra Györ and from 1991-2017 Lecturer at the Opera Institute of the Music University Vienna. Since 2014 Thomas Koncz is permanent guest conductor of the Sinfonie Orchester Berlin, every season performing a wide range of classical repertoire at the Philharmonie Berlin.
He is a guest conductor of famous European Orchestras, such as Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Wiener Symphoniker, RSO Wien, Tonkünstler Orchester Wien, Mozarteum-Orchester Salzburg, Beethoven Orchester Bonn, Düsseldorfer Symphoniker,Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, Orchestras of Scala Milano and of Maggio Musicale Florence, Radio Orchestras of Copenhagen and Athens, Berner Symphoniker. Opera conductor in music theaters of Vienna, Bern and New York. Numerous CD and TV recordings.
All family members of Thomas Koncz are professional musicians, his wife Elisabeth is flautist, daughter Theresia is singer and piano teacher, the one son Stephan is cellist of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and the other, Christoph, Principal 2. Violinist of the Wiener Philharmoniker
