Günter Haumer

The Austrian baritone, Günter Haumer, is a renowned concert and opera singer, internationally sought-after for his versatility.

He has performed under the batons of Gustavo Dudamel, Christian Thielemann, Ivor Bolton, Jesús Lopez-Cobos, Fabio Luisi, André Orozco-Estrada, Philippe Herreweghe, Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, and Dan Ettinger. His appearances span prominent concert halls and festivals such as the Wiener Musikverein, Wiener Konzerthaus, Auditorio Nacional Madrid, Dresdner Philharmonie, Bayreuther Festspiele, Semperoper Dresden, Cité de la musique Paris, Tel Aviv Opera, Osterfestspiele Salzburg, Theater an der Wien, Wiener Festwochen, Jones Hall for the Performing Arts Texas, Utrecht Early Music Festival, Warsaw Philharmonic, Teatro Mayor Bogotá, Styriarte Graz, and Fundación Juan March.

Among the many roles he has sung are Don Giovanni, Il Conte Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, Giorgio Germont in La Traviata, the Tsar in Zar und Zimmermann, Ping in Turandot, Don Alfonso in Cosi fan tutte, Malatesta in Don Pasquale, Danilo in Die Lustige Witwe, Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus, and Zebul in Jephtha. Günter Haumer is often sought for contemporary performances. He sang the title role in the premieres of "Immer noch Loge" by Gordon Kampe at the Bayreuther Festspiele, as well as in Christoph Ehrenfellner's Judas, Amfortas in Mea culpa by Christoph Schlingensief, alongside works by Cerha, Berio, Sanchez-Verdú, and Harvey, among others.

He has worked under the direction of Rolando Villazón, Deborah Warner, Nikolaus Habjan, Christiane Lutz, and Philipp Harnoncourt, to name a few. Since 2012, he has been a member of the ensemble at the Wiener Volksoper.

A particular passion of his is lieder interpretation. He regularly collaborates with renowned specialists such as Roger Vignoles, Julius Drake, and James Baillieu. He has numerous CD and DVD recordings with labels like Hyperion, cpo, Chandos, Unitel, Odradek Records, ORF Edition, as well as radio and television broadcasts. A lieder CD featuring works by Richard Strauss, accompanied by Roger Vignoles, was released by Hyperion Records during the anniversary year.

The baritone began his education at the Musikhochschule Wien, initially in clarinet and piano. He later pursued vocal studies at the Music University in Vienna and at the Royal College of Music in London.

As of 2023, Günter Haumer teaches singing at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
