LATIN CLASSICS
In our first concert of the newly restructured "Prime Time International" format, let us present along with our longtime First Guest Conductor Joji Hattori, the soloist Nathalie Peña-Comas, who has been honored with prestigious awards from international singing competitions.
In 2017, the soprano, born in Santo Domingo and trained in Vienna, also released the album "Alta Gracia," which was nominated for the Latin Grammy for Best Classical Album. (An "Ave Maria" by her compatriot Manuel Tejada included on the album was also nominated for the Latin Grammy for Best Classical Contemporary Composition.)
On this evening, Nathalie Peña-Comas will present us with a similar repertoire, including songs influenced by the music of the Antilles by the Catalan composer Xavier Montsalvatge, as well as hits from Zarzuelas by Ruperto Chapí y Lorente, José Serrano, and Federico Moreno Torroba. These Zarzuelas have been made famous by stars like the legendary Diva Montserrat Caballé, even by us.
